Bad news for Hudson Valley fans of Perkins Bakery and Restaurant.

Large signs on both windows of the building greeted customers on Tuesday evening, explaining that the restaurant has been closed for good. Just three months ago Kevin Jones, owner of three Hudson Valley restaurants, was given the 2017 Franchisee of the Year award at a special Perkins conference. Jones operated Perkins restaurants in Middletown, Wappingers Falls and Newburgh. But now one of those locations is closed.

Bold red letters spelled out the words "Restaurant Closed" on the sign in the window of the popular Perkins location on Route 211 in Middletown. The building appears abandoned, as does the Wallkill Inn and Suites that the restaurant is adjacent to. A person familiar with the situation says that residents of the inn were informed that they had until the end of May to vacate the premises. It's likely the restaurant was given the same instructions.

None of the other Perkins locations seem to have been affected by the closure. On Tuesday night there was a full parking lot in front of the Wappingers Falls location on Route 9. According to Perkins CEO Jeff Warne, the operator of the Hudson Valley restaurants has been very successful. During the conference in March he said this about Kevin Jones;

Kevin has an unmatched passion for the Perkins brand and its people. He is driven to be best in class and exemplifies overall excellence in operations and brand standards; leadership that inspires others; and significant contributions to the improvement of the system.

It's unclear if Jones will find a new Middletown location. Until then the sign out front suggests customers visit two of his other closest Perkins franchises in Newburgh and Matamoras, PA.
