State Police arrested a woman after she was allegedly caught trying to smuggle in drugs into an Ulster County prison.

New York State Police at Ellenville arrested 20-year-old Deonia Jones, of Brooklyn for 1st-degree promoting prison contraband, 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Authorities say on February 27, 2016, the New York State Department of Corrections Office of Special Investigations along with the New York State Police, were conducting an investigation into narcotics being smuggled into Ulster Correctional Facility in Napanoch. Jones was arrested after she was located trying to smuggle suboxone, "K-2" synthetic marijuana and marijuana into the prison.

Police believe Jones was attempting to bring the drugs into the prison while visiting an inmate there.

Jones was arraigned in the Town of Wawarsing Court and remanded her to Ulster County Jail on $2,500 cash bail or $7,500 secured bond. Jones will return on March 04.
