A Hudson Valley woman is accused of collecting nearly $42,000 from her dead mother's pension.

On Tuesday, New York State Police arrested 63-year-old Bonnie S. Robertson of Pleasant Valley for grand larceny, a felony.

State Police investigators in Poughkeepsie were told by the Division of Investigations of the New York State Comptroller’s Office about someone who was likely stealing New York State retirement funds.

According to police, Robertson’s mother, a pensioner in the New York State retirement system, passed away in 2013.

Robertson had joint access to her mother’s account. She didn't to notify the State retirement fund of her mother's passing and fraudulently collect pension payments totaling $41,923.70, police say.

”Ms. Robertson allegedly thought she could deceive the retirement system and continue to pocket her deceased mother’s pension to pay her bills. Instead, she is now charged with a felony,” State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli said.

Robertson was arraigned before the town of Unionvale Court and released to the supervision of Dutchess County Probation.
