An alleged burglar is accused of trying to run people over near the Walkway Over The Hudson in a stolen vehicle.

On Thursday around 1:30 pm., the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department received a call for an erratic vehicle attempting to run people over in the area of 52 Gifford Avenue. 52 Gifford Avenue is within walking distance to the Walkway Over the Hudson as well as the popular Lola's Cafe, according to Google Maps.
The vehicle, a black Dodge Charger was identified as a stolen vehicle from the Town of Fishkill, police say.
Multiple units responded and police allege they found the car traveling the wrong way on Gifford Avenue. The Charger then sideswipe a police vehicle and continued East on Gifford Avenue, police say. At the same time, two other police vehicles approached from Washington Street, Route 9G. The Charger drove around the first police vehicle, then struck the second police vehicle head-on, police say.
The driver, 31-year-old Malachi Hunter was was taken into custody, after locking himself inside the vehicle. He was charged with one count of criminal possession of stolen property, three counts of criminal mischief, all felonies, four counts of reckless endangerment, obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest, misdemeanors.
Two police and one civilian vehicle were damaged. Multiple officers were treated at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital for injuries resulting from the incident, most returned to duty, the others are not expected to be out of work for an extended time, police say.
Hunter is suspected of having been involved in burglaries in the Town of Fishkill, during one of those burglaries he stole the Charger, police allege.
