A bike benefit was held this past weekend to raise money for the children of Tim Veach, who was killed on September 26 while riding his motorcycle on Route 55.

A police investigation indicated that a 2009 Mazda was traveling westbound on Route 55 on Sept 26, when it crossed the center line, and struck Veach, who was riding a Kawasaki motorcycle travel east at the time.

Veach was pronounced dead at the scene.

Veach is survived by his four children: Timothy Junior, 15, Anthony, 13, Gian, 11, and Damian, 5, all of Hyde Park.

The benefit ride began and ended at Copperfield's Restaurant in Salt Point.

One hundred blue carnations were handed out at the location of the crash and placed by family members and friends. 58 double riders and 105 single riders participated.

A total of $5,180 was raised from registrations and an additional $2,320 in donations.

Copperfields also donated a buffet service and drinks for the event. Copperfield's won the 50/50 raffle as well, to which they donated the winnings back, according to HVNN.

More than $8,800 was raised during the event, which will go to Veach's children.

Any donations to help support the children can be mailed to Tom Veach at 41 Kelsey Road, Poughkeepsie, 12601.
