A prisoner at the Otisville State Correctional Facility, who was just released after serving a 15-year term for a first-degree assault conviction, was shot 15 minutes later when he was taken to the nearby Metro-North Railroad station to take the train back to his hometown of New York City.

The 33-year-old man was shot several times in the upper body and was flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla where he underwent surgery, police said.

The two suspects fled in a gray or white Hyundai sedan and were believed to be in the New York City area.

Police say that the community is not believed to be in any danger and the Otisville Elementary School, which was locked out earlier in the day, was reopened by late afternoon. They also said they believed the train station was safe.
