New Paltz: Garvan’s Hopes to Be Open Again Friday
Normally this week I would be making my annual birthday reservation at one of my favorite restaurants in the Hudson Valley, Garvan's in New Paltz. Garvan's is my go to place for great food and special occasions. Birthdays, anniversaries or any other celebration are always topped with a big helping of the delicious food and warm hospitality you find every time you walk through the door at Garvan's Gastropub.
Unfortunately, Garvan's has had to close for a bit due to a member of their staff testing positive for COVID 19. In a Facebook post on Saturday (November 28th), Garvan's announced that they had been notified of the positive test on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. The post complimented the Ulster County staff who is working on this situation with the staff. The post also went on to say that they weren't required to close but they have chosen to in order to go above and beyond for their staff and customers.
Their plan is to stay closed while they do a deep cleaning and monitor other members of the staff for symptoms. The staff member that was positive was asymptomatic. The plan is that if all goes well they will be back open this coming Friday December 4th. They also thanked everyone for their support over the last few months.
Garvan's was one of the first restaurant that was able to open earlier this year due to the amount of outdoor space they had around the restaurant. They have had a successful summer and fall with customers be able to eat both inside and out. The crew at Garvan's has done a wonderful job of keeping everyone socially distanced and comfortable during their meals.
During all of this Garvan's has also kept the community in mind. They have had a donation box at the restaurant since earlier this year that they empty monthly. The donations are for Family of New Paltz and each month when the box is emptied Garvin's matches the amount inside. On November 19th they counted out $334 which turned into $668 for Family of New Paltz just in time for Thanksgiving.
