Here are the new laws in New York State for 2019 that you should know about.

New York workers who live in the Empire State can now take up to 10 weeks off for family leave, an increase from eight. The increase includes time off for a new child, caring for a family member with a serious health condition or helping loved ones when a family member is deployed on active military duty.

  •  $15 per hour for workers at big companies in New York City
  • $12 per hour for Long Island and Westchester County
  • $11.10  per hour for the rest for New York State ($12.75 for fast-food workers)
  • New York pharmacies will no longer be allowed to sell cigarettes.
  • All new or renovated buildings in the state will have to put baby changing stations in all bathrooms, regardless of gender
  • New York City restaurants must stop serving food in single-use styrofoam containers
  • A pill return requirement for unused prescription drugs
  • Increase in property tax rebates for homeowners
