There are many great reasons to live in the Hudson Valley and the Minnewaska State Park is definitely one of them. It holds a very special place in my heart, because my husband and I got married there on a rock outcropping back in July of 2000.

But besides the personal connection, it's a beautiful park with three lakes, many waterfalls, world-class rock climbing, and 35 miles of carriageways and 25 miles of footpaths on which to bike, walk, hike and simply enjoy.

It's about to get bigger and better. According to the Associated Press, Minnewaska State Park Preserve will be expanded by 602 acres. These lands will come from two parcels acquired from the Open Space Institute for $2.4 million from the Environmental Protection Fund. Officials say the purchase will lead to improved trails in the Shawangunks  and help protect the Witch's Hole Conservation Area within the park.

If you haven't been there, I encourage you to go, you will be amazed by it's beauty. If you are a rock climber or hiker, you've probably already been there many times and now you can look forward to even more trails and challenges the additional lands will bring.
