A man wanted for murder in New Jersey was found hiding in the Hudson Valley.

On Tuesday around 10 a.m., the City of Newburgh police department received a phone call stating a man took a gun from a vehicle and ran into an apartment at the the Mullins Apartment complex at on Walsh Road.

Officers from the City of Newburgh, Town of New Windsor, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and set up a perimeter around the apartment. A short time later a woman and a child exited the apartment and police were told a man and a small child were still inside, officials say.

Authories made their way into the apartment and arrested 31-year-old Eric T. Stevens of Irvington, N.J. He was charged with being a fugitive from justice stemming from a New Jersey bench warrant for murder.

As a result of the investigation City of Newburgh resident Quincy Howard, 29, was charged with falsely reporting an incident. No injuries were reported.
