Man Falls 45 Feet Hiking Near Minnewaska
We're gearing up for the beautiful spring weather here in the Hudson Valley. Which means people are out and about checking out some of the amazing trails we have to offer.
With that being said, it always good to take precaution when hiking to avoid injuries.
Over the weekend, officers from the Department of Environmental Conservation along with Forest Rangers, State Park Police, Ulster County Sheriffs, State Troopers, Mohonk Preserve Rangers, and local fire and ambulance services assisted in a call at Gertrude's Nose near Minnewaska State Park Preserve.
A 55-year old man from Long Island slipped and fell 45 feet into a crevasse, according to a press release. Thankfully the man was extricated from said crevasse. He was then taken by State Police helicopter to an ambulance waiting nearby.
The man is recovering at a Poughkeepsie hospital.
If you are interested in hiking around the Mohonk area and you live in Ulster County, you are eligible for a free one month pass.
