A police department from the area got into the holiday spirit and paid off the lunch debt for a number of local students.

On Wednesday, the Suffern Police Department paid off the lunch balances for all of the students at RP Connor Elementary School in the Village of Suffern.

Suffren police used money the department raised through its DARE program which includes DARE dances to hand school officials a check of over $1,500 to pay off all the lunch money owed by students and their families.

"This donation will help ease the burden on families who are having a hard time during this holiday season and we are proud to help out our local families and kids in any way we can," the Suffern Police Department said on Facebook.
