Kingston Gun Store Has “No Masks Allowed” Sign

Police have asked the owner of the store to remove the sign.

According to the Daily Freeman, a gun shop located at 1050 Morton Boulevard in Kingston, has been asked by local police to remove a sign that reads, "NO MASKS ALLOWED", the sign was last seen on Tuesday on the front door of Ruger's Custom Guns.

Ulster Police Chief Kyle Berardi told the Freeman that the police haven't received any complaints about the sign but, the gun shop owner has been approached by police regarding the sign and was asked to take the sign down. Berardi said that officers, "advised the owner to take the sign down". The owner did, Berardi said, "he complied without incident".

We have left a message with the store for comment but haven't heard back from them yet .We will update this story when we do. As far as why the sign became an issue during these COVID times, New York State has passed a law during the coronavirus pandemic that does require anyone over the age of two and anyone medically able to tolerate a face covering to wear one when in public places and they are unable to maintain social distance.

Social distance is defined in the law as, persons maintaining at least six feet distance between themselves and others. That does not include persons that live in the same household.

The law also has other guidelines that people need to follow including, businesses must deny entry to their establishment if a person is not wearing a mask requires and any employers need to provide employees with masks that need to be worn when in direct contact with customers.
