I have many fond memories of being at the lake with friends. Growing up in Lake Carmel, NY, we had a lake that was surrounded by beaches, and it was always a place to gather with friends and family to make memories. Another lake I've always liked going to was Lake Taghkanic.

The park sits adjacent to the Taconic State Parkway in the southern part of Columbia County. Lake Taghkonic stretches 1.5 miles long. The lake on average is about 19 feet deep, with its absolute deepest point totaling 40 feet deep. If that sounds impressive, try comparing that to New York's deepest lake, Seneca lake, which has its deepest point at 618 feet.

Lake Taghkanic State Park is extremely popular in the Hudson Valley during the summer months. If you're a fan of the water, they offer paddleboat rentals, kayak rentals, swimming and fishing. If you're looking for a way to enjoy the lake while staying dry though, Lake Taghkonic also has playgrounds, picnic areas, sports fields, and a rec hall. They even have cabins and campsites for those looking to extend their beach day into a longer getaway.
