A tragic incident unfolded at Niagara Falls on Monday when a mother and her two children went over the falls from Luna Island, a section of Goat Island.

New York State Police identified the victims as 33-year-old Chaianti Means, her 9-year-old son Roman Rossman, and her 5-month-old daughter Mecca Means, all from Niagara Falls, NY.

State Police were called to Goat Island around 9 p.m. on Monday after reports of three individuals crossing a safety barrier on Luna Island and plunging into the falls.

Despite extensive search efforts led by the New York State Park Police, the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and multiple emergency response units, no signs of recovery exist.

According to the police, “The investigation has determined that this incident was intentional in nature, though the circumstances remain under investigation. This incident deems no public threat to safety.”

 

The search and rescue efforts have included drones, helicopters, underwater units, and marine patrols, but as of Wednesday, results have remained negative.

While the full circumstances surrounding this tragic event are still under investigation, law enforcement agencies emphasize that the public is not in danger.

Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.
