June 13th Crash in Town of Dover

The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office has reported that a two-vehicle crash in the Town of Dover just before 4pm on Thursday June 13th has claimed the life of a 74-year-old from Sherman, Connecticut.

The accident took place at the intersection of State Route 22 and State Route 55 at the southernmost intersection, south of the Mobil Station.

The first vehicle, a 2010 Chevy pickup truck was said to be on State Route 55 intending to enter traffic on Route 22, an the second, a 2020 Kenworth tractor-trailer traveling north on State Route 22 approaching the Route 55 intersection. Police describe the nature of the accident as follows: the Chevy enters Route 22 from Route 55 directly in the path of the tractor-trailer, and is struck.

Sherman, CT Man Identified in Fatal Accident

Authorities have identified 74-year-old Joseph W. Hogan of Sherman, CT as the operator of the Chevy pickup; he was later pronounced dead at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie.

The tractor-trailer's operator has not been identified, but was transported to Vassar Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There were no additional passengers in either vehicle, and the tractor-trailer has been reported as 'unloaded' at the time of the incident.

At this time, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office has shared that the 'primary factor in the crash appears to be failure to yield the right of way on the part of vehicle one.' The investigation continues with the Sheriff's Office's Detective Bureau and Crash Investigation Unit.
