Brantley Gilbert messed up when he revealed the gender of his third child with wife Amber, he admits.

"(She's) well into pregnancy and we're playing by her rules," he tells Taste of Country Nights. But, "I slipped up and told folks."

  • Gilbert's new Tattoos album dropped last Friday (Sept. 13).
  • He joined the Taste of Country Nights: On Demand podcast this week.
  • Baby No. 3 will join son Barrett, 6 and daughter Hendrix, 5.

The full conversation with Gilbert goes deep on what fatherhood means to him and how building a self-sufficient farm in Georgia isn't just doomsday prep, but a chance to show his children how to survive in an unpredictable world.

Fans who have lost track of the "Over When We're Sober" singer across the last half-decade may not recognize this version of the man.

"We do know what it is. We do know the name," Gilbert begins, speaking of the new baby on the way. "I said 'him' a time or two, so, it is a boy."

Baby No. 3 was a surprise, but neither Gilbert nor his wife are against raising a large family. He describes their relationship with their children as parents first, friends second.

"A lot of the things that are going on in the world these days, I feel like we have a unique opportunity to raise kids in the right home with the right ideals and send 'em on their way with a good moral compass with their faith intact," the 39-year-old shares.

"Me and My House" (with Struggle Jennings and Demun Jones) speaks to Gilbert's outlook.

"Man I can't watch the news / It's safe to say we lost our way / If you wanna know the truth / I think it's 'cause we lost our faith," he sings to begin the ballad.

Fighting for faith, family and country is a priority.
