A Hudson Valley man is accused of using fake money to buy a car.

New York State Police at Kingston arrested Lucas Martinez from the City of Kingston for first-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument and fourth-degree grand larceny, both felonies.

The arrest was made after it was determined that on October 21,  Martinez agreed to purchase a car that was posted for sale on a cell phone sales app, according to New York State Police.

Martinez met the seller and conducted the transaction, but it was later discovered Martinez allegedly used counterfeit money to purchase the car.

Martinez was arraigned before the Town of Kingston Justice Court and remanded to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond.
