Hudson Valley banking customers may be out of luck if they need to quickly access large sums of cash.

The Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union is the latest financial institution in the Hudson Valley to announce new ATM withdrawal limits for their customers. In an effort to thwart fraud and criminal activity, banks and credit unions have been dropping the daily limit of funds that can be withdrawn from ATMs.

According to signs now hanging on HVFCU ATMs, the daily limit customers can withdraw from 7am to 7pm is now $500. After hours and on Sundays the limit drops to $250. These limits are for all transactions, so you can't just head over to another ATM to get out more cash.

Those who find themselves in need of their own money after hours or on the weekend could find themselves in trouble if they don't plan ahead.

Mid Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union still allows customers to withdraw up to $1,000 per day, but banks allowing customers to withdraw large amounts of money are becoming hard to find in the Hudson Valley.

According to gobankingrates.com  Chase Bank is the most generous, allowing customers to take out up to $3,000 per day.TD Bank's limit is either $1,000 or $750 depending on the type of account you have.

M&T Bank, Wells Fargo and HSBC all have a $500 ATM limit per day. Citizens Bank is $400 and Key Bank only allows customers to withdraw a total of $300 per day from their ATMs. Bank of America doesn't have a monetary limit, but they only allow customers to withdraw 40 bills at a time from their machines.

We want to know what you think about low ATM limits. Is it a smart way to thwart crime, or just another inconvenience for banking customers?
