High-Risk Hudson Valley Sex Offender Sexually Enticed Teen
A Hudson Valley man who previously sexually abused multiple young girls sexually manipulated a 14-year-old on social media.
On Thursday in Southern District of New York Court, 37-year-old David Onmacht, a register sex offender living in the Hudson Valley, was sentenced to over 32 years in prison for enticing a 14-year-old girl to engage in sexual conduct via Instagram while a registered sex offender.
From November 2016 through February 2017, Ohnmact messaged with a 14-year-old girl using two different Instagram accounts. Ohnmact pretended he was a 19-year-old man on one account and a teen girl on the other.
Ohnmact manipulated the girl into sending sexually explicit images of herself to him and later told the teen he would release the first sexually explicit photo if she didn't send more.
In 2003, Onmacht was convicted in Westchester County Court of multiple sexual abuse and sexual assault. His convictions included rape, three counts of sexual abuse, sodomy, possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child less than 16 years old and use of a child less than 17 years of age in a sexual performance.
Onmacht victims were two 13-year-old girls, a 14-year-old girl and a 15-year-old girl, according to the New York State Sex Offenders database. The Level-3 sex offender is labeled as a "Sexually Violent Offender."
Level-3 sex offenders are considered to have the highest risk of a repeat offense and are considered the greatest risk to the public.
Onmacht was sentenced to 40 months in prison. After serving about nine years in jail, he was released in November 2011. As part of his parole, he wasn't allowed to use a computer, NBC reports.
Onmact's parole ended in November 2016 around the same time as he started messaging his new victim on Instagram.
“This case underlines the urgent need for law enforcement to continue its efforts to protect children from those who prey on them," Geoffrey S. Berman said.
