Why is that healthy foods seem to be the most expensive items in the grocery store, while those foods that aren't good for you are usually much less expensive. If you're on a budget, and I don't know too many people who aren't on one, it can be a tough choice to make. Eat healthy and not have money for gas and bills, or pay your bills but eat foods that aren't the best for you.

The Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, the Greater Hudson Valley Family Health Center, Newburgh Armory, have joined forces to help families by providing free fruits and vegetables at the Newburgh Farm Stand program. According to the Times-Herald Record, this program takes place every third Wednesday of the month behind the Newburgh Armory Unity Center.

Feeding the working poor and seniors on fixed incomes is part of the goal. But the monthly giveaway is also about distributing healthy foods to families and promoting the benefits of fresh produce over fast food and unhealthy snacks. The Times Herald-Record also reports that similar farm stands are held every Tuesday at Ulster County Community Action in Kingston and, beginning in June, at People’s Place in Kingston.
