Founder of Adams Fairacre Farms Dies
The founder of one of the most recognizable Hudson Valley family businesses passed away.
Donald P. Adams, 87, of Poughkeepsie, passed away on Tuesday. Adams was a life-long resident of the Town of Poughkeepsie. With his brother, Ralph, he established one of the area's most recognizable local businesses, Adams Fairacre Farms.
Adams was born in Poughkeepsie on July 2, 1932. He graduated from Arlington High School in 1950. At Arlington, he was class president and helped design the signature Arlington anchor, according to his obituary.
After high school, he began working full-time on his family's farm, selling produce to Hudson Valley residents. After his father passed away in 1957, Don and his brother Ralph took over the family business, which led to the Adams Fairacre Farms we know today.
"Adams' growth and success is due in large part to Don and Ralph's shared respect for their agrarian roots, and a strong dedication to creating a unique and enjoyable shopping experience for every customer. He was community-minded, serving on several boards, including HSBC, H.V. Renegades, and Astor Home for Children," his obituary reads.
Up until his death, on most days, you could find him visiting all four Adams Fairacre Farms. Adams Fairacre Farms has locations in Kingston, Newburgh, Wappinger and Poughkeepsie.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held for Adams on Monday at Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie. He was buried at St. Peter's Cemetery in Poughkeepsie.
