Only four days after Christmas, tragedy struck this morning in the Town of Poughkeepsie. According to the Hudson Valley News Network, fire fighters from the Arlington Fire District were dispatched to 31 Durocher Terrace a few minutes before five am for a structure fire with reports of someone possibly still inside.

The fire fighters were met with heavy smoke and fire, leading this to be declared a three alarm fire. Several other area fire departments were called in to assist with the blaze. Upon further investigation, one victim was found inside the structure and pronounced dead at the scene. The victim has been identified as Steanislaw Soltysiak, 75, of Poughkeepsie, according to The Poughkeepsie Journal.

The only other reported injury was a Town of Poughkeepsie police officer who was taken to Vassar Brothers Medical Center and treated for smoke inhalation. According to the Hudson Valley News Network, the Arlington Fire District and the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department are investigating the origin and cause of the fire.
