Born in Kennett, Missouri, Nail’s journey led him to Nashville, where he refined his craft under the mentorship of producer Frank Liddell. His debut album, I’m About to Come Alive, and his subsequent releases solidified his reputation as an artist unafraid to take creative risks. After departing from MCA Nashville, Nail ventured down an independent path, culminating in his 2018 project David Nail & The Well Ravens, which marked a new era of artistic exploration. This project marked a new chapter in his musical evolution, which led to his debut solo independent EP Oh, Mother—a deeply introspective release. Rolling Stone described the title track as a “slow-burn” with Nail’s soaring vocals accompanied by restrained cello and keys, building to a powerful climax.
Nail's debut EP was soon followed by Bootheel 2020 and Bootheel 2021, albums dedicated to his hometown in Missouri's “bootheel.” Nail’s 2023 EP, Best of Me, was well-received, with the title track gaining attention from press and country radio. In 2024, Nail hit the road more than ever, releasing singles like “If I Could Call” and “Why” featuring Aubrie Sellers.
