Dutchess County Pet Shop Owner Charged With Animal Cruelty
The owner of American Breeders pet shop on South Road in Wappingers, who also owns shops in Mohegan Lake and Danbury, CT, has been charged with three counts of cruelty after an investigation by inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Agriculture, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.
Richard Doyle of Mahopac was charged after allegations surfaced that he didn't care properly for two dogs as well as a kitten, which investigators say led to the euthanization of two of the animals, according to the article.
The newspaper reported that one of the animal cruelty charges stem from an incident this past March.
Doyle allegedly performed a surgical procedure on the eye of a Neopolitan Mastiff when he is not licensed to do so. The female dog sustained severe bleeding after the procedure on an inner eyelid, which Doyle allegedly performed in the rear of his pet shop in Danbury.
One of Doyle's store managers, Kathy Seton has charges of animal cruelty pending as well, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal. Doyle was arrested Monday on a warrant signed by a Danbury Superior Court judge and released with a written promise to appear in court on August 6.
