Driving to Help Hudson Valley Senior Citizens
If you have been looking for ways to give back to your community or you have always wanted to volunteer for something but don't feel that you have enough time, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
For some seniors simply getting to medical appointments is a feat unto itself. While there are many organizations throughout the Hudson Valley that do their best to coordinate volunteers with seniors in need. Oftentimes, the need is greater than the volunteers can handle.
Take Sullivan County for instance, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) diligently serves as many seniors as they can, but the demand for services is beyond their current roster of volunteers. They can get more than 100 requests a month to help senior citizens get to crucial medical visits.
As a result, they are currently looking for residents 55 or older, with a valid driver's license to donate one half-day every month to help an older residents get to their appointments. You'd be helping someone's parent, grandparent, or other relative lead a more independent and high quality life.
