A young dog was fatally shot and left dead on the side of the road in the Hudson Valley. A reward is being offered in hopes of finding the animal's killer.

The Town of Cornwall Police Department is investigating the abuse and death of a dog. On Monday, a young female bulldog was found dead off of a remote section of Long Hill Road in the Town of Cornwall.

Further inspection of the dog revealed that it was intentionally shot by a large caliber handgun, police say.

The New York State Humane Association, based in Kingston, is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the fatal shooting.

"The individual or individuals responsible for killing this unfortunate animal must be brought to justice," the New York State Humane Association said in a press release. "They will be facing misdemeanor and possible felony charges."

The Town of Cornwall Police Department is requesting any information as to the dog’s owner or the abuser's identity. Please call (845) 534-8100 for Police Officer Thompson with any information. All calls will be kept confidential.

Photos of the dog, which police provided because authorities believe the photos will help catch the person responsible can be seen below. I warn, these photos are graphic --- so if you don't want to see them --- don't scroll below.
