I've seen many stories about people having a Bobcat visit in their yard, but this time the Bobcat sighting hit a lot closer to home.

Now I've read and even written stories about local Bobcat sightings, but this morning (Monday), the Bobcat sighting took place right outside my house.

Thanks to our neighbor who was quick with her phone and took some fantastic pictures, we got a close up glimpse of one of these beautiful creatures who happened to be right in our front yard.

Fortunately our dog and our neighbors dog were not outside at the time, but our neighbor was alerted about the Bobcat by their dog barking out the front window, not too far away from the predator.

Though it's amazing to see these creatures on the prowl, there is some danger to small dogs and other small critters you may have at home.

With that being said, according to trutechinc.com, here are answers to some of the most common questions people have when they spot a Bobcat on their property.

Are Bobcats Dangerous To Humans?

Bobcat attacks on people are unlikely. Normally they are very timid and solitary animals that will avoid human contact, however you still need to practice caution when or if you have an encounter. The problem and the main cause for a Bobcat attack is that you may not know there is one in your yard, which creates the possibility of an accidental encounter. Since Bobcats are very powerful animals, and do have the ability to take on larger animals, contact should be avoided whenever possible.

Is My Pet In Danger If There's A Bobcat In My Yard?

Most of the time, other types of food sources attract Bobcats into a yard, even one that's fenced in. Since the Bobcat is an animal of prey, it will attack a dog or cat if it's left outside. Bobcats may be attracted to a yard that has abundant wildlife, domestic birds, small pets, a fresh water supply, shade or other types of shelter. Small pets need to be protected from Bobcats and other predators. Keep small pets indoors, in an enclosed area with a roof, or on a leash when outside, but if you use the leash, make sure you keep an eye on the pet and not leave them unattended to become easy prey. Also do not leave out feeding bowls with food in it and make sure other types of food sources are kept in sealed containers which will discourage the Bobcat from future visits to your yard.

What Should I Do If I See A Bobcat In My Yard?

If you encounter a Bobcat in your yard, stay away from it. If for any reason you are attacked and possibly bitten by one seek medical attention immediately. Bobcats, like other wild animals, can carry rabies or have other issues. Also contact your local humane society if the visits become frequent.

LOOK: Here are the pets banned in each state

Because the regulation of exotic animals is left to states, some organizations, including The Humane Society of the United States, advocate for federal, standardized legislation that would ban owning large cats, bears, primates, and large poisonous snakes as pets.
