Here is one trend that we all hope continues. Violent crimes going down in our neighborhoods.

According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, violent crime in Dutchess County dropped nearly 22 percent from 2010 to 2014 with 711 incidents reported in 2010 to 558 in 2014.

In Ulster County the numbers dropped as well with 408 incidents reported in 2010 to 293 in 2014.

What has caused the drop? A number of factors could lead to the drop, Dutchess County officials told the Poughkeepsie Journal. But one initiative that's clearly helped is the state-funded Gun Involved Violence Elimination, or GIVE, program.

Also Dutchess County Sherriff, Capt. John Watterson told the Poughkeepsie Journal that increased enforcement, combined with increased awareness from the community, could be top factors in the crime rate dropping.
