Did You Know the Cleanest Lake in America is Right Here in New York State?
A popular vacation destination for Hudson Valley residents has just received a crystal clear honor.
If you grew up in the tri-state area, there's a strong chance that you and your family vacationed in Lake George. The town of Lake George has everything your family craves on vacation: food, fun, and a beautiful body of water.
Lake George, also known as the Queen of American Lakes, is 32.19 miles long and 2.5 miles wide, plus is a natural lake whose "surface elevation has been raised slightly (perhaps 2-3 feet on average) by a dam constructed at the outlet in Ticonderoga along the La Chute River" according to The Lake George Park Commission.
Recently, the website A-Z Animals created a list of The 10 Cleanest Lakes in America and wouldn't you know it? Lake George took the top spot.
The website explains that Lake George is "widely considered one of the country's most beautiful and cleanest lakes adding:
Each year, the deep blue waters of Lake George, located in the southern Adirondack State Park, attract over 50,000 summer tourists. Water skiing, jet skiing, rafting, and kayaking are among some of the water-based activities available to visitors.
Surprisingly, no other lakes in New York made the list. Here are the 9 other clean lakes that rounded out the top 10 list:

4. Lake Coeur d'Alene- Kootenai County, Idaho
5. Lake Tahoe- California and Nevada
6. Lake Chelan- North Cascades National Park, Washington
7. Hanging Lake- Glenwood Canyon, Colorado
8. Flathead Lake- Between Polson and Kalispell, Montana
9. New Found Lake -Grafton County, New Hampshire
10. Deer Lake- Itasca County, Minnesota
