One of The Boot's New Country Artists to Watch in 2017, Carly Pearce, recently shared a cover of the 1980 Dolly Parton hit "9 to 5." The rising star gives the classic tune a fresh twist; readers can press play above to listen to Pearce's cover, which came during an appearance on The Bobby Bones Show.

While "9 to 5" isn't an original, of course, Pearce puts her own spin on it, and the result is pretty impressive. Taking a turn from Parton's sweet twang, Pearce gives the song an earthier feel.

“Workin’ 9 to 5 / What a way to make a livin’ / Barely gettin’ by / It’s all takin’ and no givin’," Pearce sings, the lyrics of "9 to 5" telling a darker tale than both Parton's and Pearce's renditions let on. "They just use your mind / And they never give you credit / It’s enough to drive you crazy / If you let it.”

A Parton track is a suitable choice of song to cover for Pearce, who got her musical start by performing at Dollywood as a teengager. Pearce signed her first major-label record deal, with Big Machine Label Group, earlier this year and is headed for big things thanks to her powerful breakout single "Every Little Thing."

Pearce is currently on tour across the U.S. Visit CarlyPearce.com to learn more about her.
