The discovery of bed bugs was made at Lawrence M. Cahill Elementary School in Saugerties.

According to HVNN, the parents of students received a letter from district officials, letting parents know that the bugs were found on Tuesday in an isolated location in a 5th grade classroom.

Dawn Scannapieco, the schools principal told HVNN that,

"As a precautionary measure, student belongings were placed in plastic bags to prevent any possible contamination.”

She also said that

“Nurse Dana and I wrote a letter to 5th grade parents requesting that the items sent home in plastic bags be reviewed and treated as needed.”

District officials told HVNN that after they had a professional come through the school, there was no signs of bed bugs.

Even though there was no signs of more bed bugs, the school is having the areas treated with high heat and assured parents that no chemicals are going to be used to fix the problem.
