Andrew Cuomo Wants to Run for 4th Term as New York Governor

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced he plans to run for a fourth term.

On Tuesday, Cuomo announced his intentions on WAMC to run for a fourth term as New York's governor in 2022.

“I plan to run for a fourth term,” Cuomo said on WAMC. "I believe I am making a difference in the State of New York. I believe that in my heart. When I look at my daughters’ faces, I believe that I’m leaving this state better for them.”

Last fall, Cuomo edged Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro by nearly 22 points to earn his third term. Cuomo received 3,353,495 votes, according to the New York State Board of Elections.

Cuomo's 3.35 million votes are the most votes anyone has ever received while running for New York's governor.

New York doesn't have term limits for governor.

"I think I'm doing good things...I believe I know how to do this," Cuomo said. "I would like to do it for as long as the people of the state of New York believe I am a positive."

If re-elected in 2022, Cuomo would become just the second person to win a fourth four-year term as New York governor, CBS reports.
