Miranda Lambert Crowned Female Vocalist of the Year at 2017 CMA Awards
Miranda Lambert was dubbed Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2017 CMA Awards. The award was presented by actress Michelle Monaghan and NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson at the awards ceremony at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville on Nov. 8.
Lambert was the most-nominated artist of the evening (with five nods), and she counts eleven total nominations for Female Vocalist of the Year. She has a now-seven-year winning streak as Female Vocalist of the Year, and in 2015, she set a new record when she won this award for the sixth consecutive year. Now iin 2017, she's widening the gap even more.
"Thank y'all so much," Lambert said while accepting the award. "Carrie, you just destroyed me," she said nodding to Underwood's moving performance of "Softly and Tenderly" which paid tribute to those the country community lost this year, including the 58 Route 91 victims. "I just want to say more than any other year I have been a part of the CMAs, I feel truly there is a family in this room tonight. We are banded and bonded more than we've ever been. Country music is truly winning right now."
Around one year ago, fans were eagerly anticipating Lambert's double record, The Weight of These Wings. It dropped Nov. 18 and includes the songs "Vice," "Tin Man" and "We Should Be Friends," among others. Lambert played her Highway Vagabond Tour this year, with Old Dominion and Aubrie Sellers, and another trek, the Livin’ Like Hippies Tour, is scheduled for 2018.
The 2017 CMA Awards' other Female Vocalist of the Year nominees were Carrie Underwood, Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini and Reba McEntire.
