On December 21 at 5:16 pm Saugerties Police responded to the Speedway on Route 212 for a report of a property damage accident.

Police say that, upon arrival, a Chrysler Pacifica operated by a Stacey Pelton of Coxsackie, was found in the grassy area next to the building. The vehicle had crashed into a tire inflation device, launching the machine into the woods, after striking a parked car in the parking lot.

When officers attempted to interview Pelton, she allegedly became extremely tumultuous, using profanity towards the officers. Pelton then shoved one of the police officers in an attempt to knock him down, police said. Pelton was taken into custody and transported to Saugerties Police headquarters for processing.

While in the booking room, Pelton smashed a breathalyzer instrument on the floor, causing it to shatter. The instrument valued at $20,000 was destroyed. Pelton was then moved into an interview room where she then knocked a table over that supported a computer system, causing the monitor to shatter. Pelton, who was extremely intoxicated, refused to comply with officers, and at one point put a hole in the wall.

Pelton, who allegedly refused to submit to a chemical test, was charged with the violation of disorderly conduct, the misdemeanors of driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest, in addition to the felony of criminal mischief for the damage she caused at police headquarters. Pelton was arraigned in the Town of Saugerties Justice Court where her vehicle operating privileges were revoked by the court. Pelton was then released by the Court on her own recognizance to appear at a later date to answer her charges.
