Woman Found Dead in Hudson Valley Creek

A woman was found dead floating in one of the largest creeks in the Hudson Valley, police are hoping you can help them figure out how she died.

On February 27, New York State Police responded to a 911 call for a body found in a tributary to the Wappinger Creek, accessible from Maloney Road in the Town of Wappinger.

The woman was approximately 5’3” and between the ages of 16 and 25 years old, police said when the body was discovered. She was found partially submerged wearing white jeans, a pink t-shirt, a black button up sweater and black and purple Merrell sneakers.

On Friday, police identified the woman as 36-year-old Ashanti Moore of Brooklyn.

An investigation revealed Moore traveled through or stayed in the Hudson Valley, Binghamton, Buffalo, and Pennsylvania from August to September 2017, prior to her death, police say.

Moore also could have spent time in the Chattanooga, Signal Mountain and Red Bank areas of Tennessee as well as Rossville, Georgia.

State Police are looking to speak to anyone who may have come in contact with Moore during her travels or has information regarding the incident.
