It has been forty one years since Willie Nelson recorded first "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain". If anyone is doing the math the year would be 1975. The official video leaves you a little bewildered unless you have seen the movie "Red Headed Stranger" which starred Willie Nelson and Morgan Fairchild. The video is actually clips from the 1986 movie. Willie's version of "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" is on his "Red Headed Stranger" album released in 1975 and is what the 1986 film was based around. Willie's version of the song received a nomination for the Academy of Country Music Award Song of the Year. It even made number 48 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Country Songs of All Time.

Before Willie took the his version of this icon song to number one on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Single Chart in 1975, other country greats had sung the great tune. Written by Fred Rose the song was first sung in 1945 by Roy Acuff. Hank Williams recorded it in 1951 and even Bill Anderson,Conway Twitty and Elvis Presley did their own version. Many artist sung this song but none more successfully than Willie Nelson. They say it jump started his career as a singer. Previously, Willie had been known more for his song writing.
