What’s Happening This Weekend in the Hudson Valley

It's the first weekend of August and there's plenty to do with family and friends around the Hudson Valley. Here's a sampling of some fun things to do.

Saturday, August 1: 10-3. Arts and Crafts Fair at the Hopewell Depot.  Come visit the restored Train Depot at the southern end of the Dutchess County Rail Trail in Hopewell Junction. Learn a little history while you do a little shopping. Plus, it's  a monthly event held the  first Saturday of the month through October.

Saturday, August 1: begins at 8:30 am. Enjoy Summerfest and Angler’s Market at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum in Livingston Manor. There will be over 100 tables of flyfishing treasures, books, gear, collectivles, tying materials and more that will satisfy any flyfisher’s dreams. The day is for everyone:  peruse the local products and crafts of the Catskills, kids can learn to tie a fly or play a game for great prizes.  There will even be casting competitions held!

Sunday, August 2: 9:30-11 Morning Blueberry Walk for Families. Join Laura Connor, Environmental Educator, for a delicious morning stroll through the old Minnewaska golf course and orchard. This approximately mile and a half long route wanders amongst blueberry bushes that should be ripe for the picking. Bring a small bag to collect as we hike. Children of all ages are welcome; however, a backpack style carrier is necessary for children who are not able to walk this distance on their own. All children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian over the age of 18. Pre-registration is required.

Sunday, August 2: 4:30 am - 1 pm. Orange County Triathlon. Since 2010, this event has attracted athletes from across the United States to gather and race on the Hudson River. This is an action-packed tour through one of America’s signature landscapes, and offers one of the fastest swims in the sport of Triathlon.  There will be a Finish Festival for athletes, friends and family at Front Street 8am-1pm with sponsors and vendors sampling their products. Athletes will receive a complimentary meal at the Finish Festival.
