A West Point cadet who was accused of raping a female classmate is heading to prison.

On Thursday, a six-member panel, consisting of U.S. Military Academy staff and faculty found 20-year-old Jacob Whisenhunt guilty of sexually assaulting a classmate.

Whisenhunt, a member of the Class of 2019 at West Point, was sentenced to 21 years in prison, dismissal from the U.S. Army, and forfeiture of all pay and allowances.

“This verdict and sentence represents the integrity of a process that includes strong victim support systems, thorough investigative efforts with collaboration among the investigators, the staff judge advocate and the special victims prosecutors to move a case to court martial,” Lt. Col. Christopher Kasker said. “In this case the court-martial resulted in a sentence that reflects the seriousness of the crimes of sexual assault and rape.

A female cadet testified that she woke up in the middle of the night to find Whisenhunt sexually touching her, he then went on to rape his female classmate, according to Daily Mail. The sexual assault happened in the summer of 2016 while cadets slept outside following a day of field training.

Whisenhunt was charged in July 2016 with three violations of Article 120, sexual assault, of the Uniform Code of Military Justice.
