We learned a lot of more information regarding the fatal bulldozer accident in Dutchess County.

On Thursday around 1:15 p.m., New York State Police in Rhinebeck were dispatched by Dutchess County 911 to Albany Post Road in Red Hook for a reported incident involving a bulldozer and a woman.

Susan M. Coons, 44, of Elizaville woman was struck by an 18-ton field tread bulldozer. Coon was employed by Jeff Decker & Son Inc. and was leveling a field in Red Hook, police say.

Coon was taken to Northern Dutchess Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

An autopsy revealed that she died as a result of severe blunt force trauma.

The equipment operator, 45-year-old Kenneth Bendix of Tivoli, told authorities he was moving the machine to make a minor adjustment to the blade and then noticed that his partner was struck by the bulldozer. He then contacted 911 and requested EMS and police to respond to the location.

State Police were assisted by the Village of Red Hook Police Department and the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office. Also on scene were the Red hook Fire Department and Northern Dutchess Paramedics.
