An unlicensed Hudson Valley man is accused of driving over three times the legal limit of intoxication and crashing into a telephone pole.

On Sunday around 2:25 a.m., Saugerties police responded to a call about a pickup truck which crashed into a telephone pole on Route 32, near Fawn Road.

While en route, officers were told that the driver was allegedly trying to flee the scene. Shortly, 45-year-old Juan Luis Giramirez Jr, of Saugerties was stopped by police.

An investigation by officers determined that Giramirez was operating a 2016 Ford F-150 pickup truck on Route 32, when he failed to negotiate a turn, veered off the road and crashed into Central Hudson utility pole, police say

Giramirez was not injured in the crash, however, the pole sustained extensive damage, resulting in a response from Central Hudson, to repair the damage, according to Saugerties police.

Police allege Giramirez's BAC was three times higher than the legal limit. He was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Giramirez was arraigned in the Town of Saugerties Justice Court and released on his own recognizance upon posting bail.
