Ulster County Releases Video Explaining Construction in New Paltz
Ulster County Executive Michael Hein has released a video that details the construction work and infrastructure improvements happening in the New Paltz area. The construction that is in progress on South Putt Corners Road in New Paltz is part of a four-year and $61 million infrastructure project known as Building a Better Ulster County.
In the video, Hein explains this particular project will cost $4.6 million. There will be six-foot shoulders on both sides of South Putt Corners Road from Route 32 to Route 299. This will be for pedestrian traffic. South Putt has a high rate of pedestrian use, according to the video.
Also, there will be dedicated turning lanes for New Paltz High School and they are installing a crosswalk for the school as well. In addition, dedicated turning lanes at the corner of South Putt Corners Road and Route 299. The Sunoco gas station on the corner will get a new entrance off of South Putt that is lower down from the intersection.
Hein says the timing of the construction at Route 299 intersection is being coordinated with the construction to connect the Hudson Valley Rail Trail to the Empire Trail System, which will run through that intersection. All the road improvements are designed to make it safer for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.
