Three Hudson Valley cities have ranked among the top 10 worst places to live in the state of New York for 2017. Roadsnacks.net has compiled the list using data from the US Census and FBI Uniform Crime Report. Only cites with more than 5,000 residents were considered leaving 334 to choose from. When compiling, factors such as crime, poverty and education were taken into consideration.

The worst city being Gloversville, was once the hub of the glove making industry in the United States. So no, it's not just a clever nickname. Monticello grabs the number two position after not even appearing in the top 10 last year. Newburgh gets a bum rap.

Sure there are bad parts, but the city overall is making strong inroads in a revival. Yes, there's work to do but give it a few more years and I predict Newburgh will fall off the list entirely. Also on the list is Mechanicstown, which is just outside of Middletown in Orange County.

Here's a look at the top 5. For the complete list you can link up with Roadsnacks.

  1. Gloversville
  2. Monticello
  3. Rochester
  4. Mechanicstown
