The Times Herald-Record is reporting that the Monroe post office in the ShopRite Plaza off Route 17M, could be renamed for a Monroe native who died in Ethiopia in 2003 while working for the CIA.

Gregg Wenzel was killed in an auto accident in 2003, but it wasn't until 6 years later that we all learned that he was working for the CIA and died in the line of duty. According to a CNN report published in June of 2009, Wenzel left his job as an attorney to join the agency and was a member of the first clandestine service class to graduate after the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

The Post Office would be designated as the "National Clandestine Service of the Central Intelligence Agency NCS Officer Gregg David Wenzel Memorial Post Office. The bill, sponsored by  Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney, D-Cold Spring, in the house and by Sens. Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand in the Senate, now awaits President Obama's signature.
