Summer driving is here. Take the top down if you can, rip of the T-tops, (do cars still have those?) or just roll down the windows and in the immortal words of Rodney Atkins" 2011 hit let's "Take a Back Road".

The Hudson Valley has been gifted with amazing back roads. We have lots of them and they all can make taking a summer drive total worth it. Think about this, you can start out on Route 55 west at The Dutchess County boarder with Connecticut and ride all the way into Sullivan County to the Pennsylvania boarder. All along the way traveling through towns and sights that you would miss if you choose the big roads.

This past Saturday after taking I84 to Smoker's Choice, I decide the drive home should be more scenery less stress, so I took Route 209 from Matamoras to Kingston. Between yards sales and just driving at a summer leisure pace my ride home felt like a mini vacation. I do love to drive and one reason why is because I can always turn up the music and take in the sights. This is easier to do on the back roads than the NY State Thruway in my opinion.

So leave extra time this summer and see how many back roads you can travel. You will be surprised what you discover when you leave the main road. Happy Motoring.
