A suspected pot farm in Ulster County went up in smoke.

Firefighters responding to a report of a house fire at 212 Bingham Road in Marlboro sensed a problem when they arrived at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

When the first responders were on scene and confirmed the fire, they called for additional departments to help and asked Central Hudson to cut power to the house.

When the power was shut off, firefighters entered the residential raised-ranch and found that the lights were still on. While performing a primary search, firefighters discovered a large possible marijuana grow operation in the upstairs bedrooms.

The basement was also a "greenhouse" packed full of five-6 foot tall potted plants, also presumed to be marijuana.

Law enforcement agencies were notified of the situation and were on the scene last night awaiting authorization to execute a search warrant of the property and the structure.
