Sunday Morning Fatal Hit and Run Accident on the Thruway

A quiet Sunday morning turned tragic earlier today as a fatal motor vehicle accident occurred on the Thruway in Rockland County, around 4 this morning.

According to the New York State Police, a 54-year-old man from New York City, Paul Peacock, was struck by an unknown vehicle as he was apparently walking on the Thruway, southbound near the Ramapo Rest area. At this time, it is not clear why he was walking on the Thruway.

While the vehicle involved in the accident failed to stop after hitting the victim, New York State Police believe that it could have been a tractor-trailer.

The investigation is on-going and while the police are gathering information, they are asking if anyone has information pertaining to this accident, or witnessed the accident, to please contact them at 845-364-9424.
