As the summer winds down, heading to the nearest swimming pool, pond, watering hole, or lake sounds like a great way to spend some lazy days before school begins for another year. If you're planning on heading to Lake Superior Beach in Bethel, however, you may need to come up with an alternative plan.

According to the County of Sullivan Office of Parks, Recreation, and Beautification, due to a regional lifeguard shortage, the hours at Lake Superior Beach will be changing next week and these changes will impact not only swimming, but rentals of paddle boats and row boats as well.

The beach will be closed from Sunday, August 27 through Thursday, August 31. Swimming, and the rental of row boats and paddle boats will be back as the beach will re-open on Friday, September 1 and remain open through Sunday, September 3.

The park will remain open on the days the beach is closed. So, you can still spend the day hiking, fishing, or just relaxing with a nice picnic lunch or dinner. For more information about the Sullivan County Park System, call 845-807-0287.
