For the past 13 years, there has been a group of people dedicated to doing what they can to make the life of cancer patients a little easier.

In honor and memory of their Mom, Rosemary Gruner, the Gruner family started the Benedictine Health Foundation's Rosemary Gruner Memorial Cancer Fund to quietly and respectfully give cancer patients a hand so they didn't have to worry about having food in their home or gas in their car.

Over the past thirteen years, more than 1500 individuals have been helped by this fund. The Bike for Cancer Care is the only event that is held annually to raise money and this year's event was held over the weekend. In spite of Mother Nature providing a few raindrops and wind gusts, they started the day at a record pace and it just better from there.

This year, they added a new event for those who either walk or run,  a family-friendly 5K Run/Walk For Cancer Care in honor of Lisa Naccarato Schatzel and Carly Elaina Bradley stepped off at 11. It was an emotional moment when I had the pleasure to meet Lisa's Mom and spend some time with her.

Their goal this year is to raise $150,000 and they are almost there. You can help by making an on-line donation here to help even more individuals in the Hudson Valley. If you, or someone you know, could use a helping hand, please call (845) 334-3017 or click here. That’s what it’s there for, that’s why people ride, walk, and run every year, and that’s why I am so proud to be a part of this event.
