Two South Carolina residents, who were pulled over for speeding on I-87, ran from police and were later caught with a loaded gun and drugs.

New York State Police say they pulled over a car that was recorded going 97 mph in a posted 65 mph zone on I-87. When troopers began to interview the driver he took off leading police on pursuit from the New York State Thruway to Route 17.

At exit 125, 22-year-old Thomas Crudo, of Conway, SC, lost control of his car and hit a guardrail. Police say Crudo and his passenger, Alison M. Chapman, 21, of Myrtle Beach, SC, then fled on foot. Chapman was immediately apprehended. Crudo was located later by City of Middletown Police and turned over to the State Police.
Police allege they found a loaded .45 caliber pistol and around 147 grams of marijuana inside the vehicle.

Both were charged with 2nd-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, 4th-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a misdemeanor, and a violation for unlawful possession of marijuana. Crudo was additionally charged with unlawful fleeing a police officer, a felony.

Both were arraigned at Town of Goshen Court and remanded to Orange County Jail. Crudo’s bail was set at $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond. Chapman’s was set at $15,000 or $30,000.
